Day 61 (S45)

Day 61

Mayoay came to visit on their third day of confinement, “So good to see you, congratulations on winning the Everbleed Bowl!”
“Mayoay… your arm…” Alice noticed that Mayoay’s right arm was entirely gone.
“Oh… yes. Unfortunately, when the arena broke I got my arm trapped between two of the moving plates. When I fell into the water after that, well… it didn’t come with me.”
Rina hugged Mayoay and Alice began to think of something she could do for her.
“Hold on… I think I have an idea,” Alice said as she waived Mari over.
“What can I do fer ye?”
“Can you get me a big rock from outside? One the side of an arm, give or take?”
Mari looked at Alice questioningly, “Of course, whatever ye need.”

“So, what’s been going on out there since the end of the tournament?” Rina asked Mayoay.
The Queen launched an investigation concerning the assassination attempt on you, and all 5 of the Fingers of Luminus have been found guilty - they’re all to be put to death.”
Alice and Rina looked shocked.
“You mean… I won’t get to kill Anna Talley myself?” Rina asked jokingly.
“Seems you won’t have to,” answered Mayoay, “They really are keeping things locked up tight here, aren’t they? I’m surprised you hadn’t heard.”
“Anything else new going on? Any other big news over the last couple of days?” asked Rina.
“Well, the new Middle Finger of Luminus is missing - Roy Richmond I think his name is. And Pontifex Coldwell has been found guilty of rigging the fight with the Thundersteps.”

Just then, Mari returned with a decently sized rock. “Hope this’ll do!”
“It definitely will!” said Alice. She then began to transmute the rock into the shape of an arm, “Rina, help me hold it up and keep it shaped right.”
Rina tried to hold it up, but the rock - which now felt more like sand between her fingers that she couldn’t quite hold onto - was not staying together.
Rina saw the bees buzzing around Mayoay, all of them seeming to want to help. Rina activated her beast speech and cast Insect plague on the rock. “Bees, you’re the builders of great houses,” she said to them, “build a home here with your master.”
The bees all swarmed the misty-looking arm, using the heat from their wings to melt the small pieces of rock together. Rina’s magic conjured even more bees, they were ice blue and spiked, and able to burrow through the forming rock to force it to keep shape.
Suddenly, the swarm subsided. Left was Mayoay’s arm of stone, heated and cooled a thousand times in a few seconds - which was now fully functional again. Her bees buzzed throughout its honeycomb holes, already making themselves comfortable in their new home as a true part of her.
“I… I don’t know what to say,” Mayoay began as tears rolled down her face, “This is the nicest thing I think anyone’s ever done for me. Thank you. I’ll be able to use magic again!”
The three of them shared hugs, and Mayoay left to meet with the witches at the Great Pyre.
