Day 06 (S5)
Rina day 1 - Leaving coven camp to go to Vorovni
The next morning the Sprite's Lights were getting ready to leave, but stopped into Valentine's tent first.
"We used up all the diamonds we had using revivify on Rina and Aurelius yesterday" Kin said to Valentine, "I don't suppose you'd be willing to replace those since the Jabberwock was your doing?"
"Of course" she said as she pulled some diamonds out of the drawer, "This should be enough for one, maybe two."
Rina approached Valentine's desk, "Since you're curious about the fey" Rina started, "I thought you may want to meet Khoshekh."
Rina snapped her fingers and circled her wrist, and Khoshekh appeared on her arm.
"Oh my goodness!" Valentine exclaimed, "He is just the sweetest thing!"
Khoshekh jumped to Valentine who began to pet him and love on him. "Where did you get such a creature as a familiar?" she asked.
"My son found him" she said, "I don't know how or where, but he sent me a spell scroll a couple of years ago to summon him... right after my late husband died. My son thought I could use the company."
"Well, your son must love you a lot" Valentine said.
Rina nodded once with a small smile, but didn't respond.
"Well, before you head off, you should know that I intend to annex the town of Mistbrook next."
"Annex it? Why?" Rina asked.
"We would like to purify that land, too" she said, "If we are going to Bring back the Fey, we will need as much of their original land as possible. Everything here used to belong to the fey, after all."
The party wished Valentine good luck, and they left the coven's outpost, heading back toward Mistbrook.
"What do you guys think we should do next?" asked Aurelius. "We heard about a lot of rumors and stuff the other day. I feel like we should do... something."
"I think we should look for the party from Basta'Thrope'," Rina said, "if they're stuck in a cave somewhere or something, it is only a matter of time before they... can't be found alive anymore."
"I think we should see what jobs Marcus has" said Alice, "We may have made some money here, but we can always use more!"
"I think we should do both," said Aurelius, there's a good chance that there will be jobs on the way to finding the Fearsome 5.
"We should also be sure to visit Pennislovica," said Kin, "the blacksmith in Vorovni said there's a great ShapeSmithing school in Castle Frey."
"The Salt Slayers told us that the Fearsome 5 went down through Pennislovica, so seems like we could kill 2 birds with one stone if we head that way" said Rina.
They all agreed - see what jobs are southwest of Vorovni, and head southwest to Pennislovica to look for the Fearsome 5.
The ride back to Vorovni went through Mistbrook. The fight the night before had injured a few of the townspeople, but the Sprite's Lights' victory made them feel safer with the Sprite Light Coven being present in their area. As the party rode by, some of the men who Rina and Aurelius fought with when they first arrived bowed to them. Some of the other townspeople waived and smiled at them, thanking them for their protection.
Valentine had trusted Kin with the letter to Rizvic concerning her voting with them on whatever they need.
"The first thing I want to do in Vorovni is get this letter to Rizvic" Kin said, "I want to be done with this whole thing!"
"Look on the bright side," Alice said, "We're officially Coven members now!"
"Yes..." groaned Rina, "Just what I wanted."
"What's your problem?" asked Alice, "It's an honor to be a coven member!"
Once again, Rina didn't answer. Only said "The first thing I want to do is get to the post office again. I want to send some of the money from the last mission to my son."
"Then how about we reconvene at the Vorovni Adventuring Guild once we're done?" said Kin.
The party split up once they hit Vorovni. The guys going to delivery the letter, and the girls went to the post office. Alice did not go into the post office, and Rina was grateful that she wasn't nosey.
To Darien she wrote "My son, I hope you are well. I miss you, and I am on my way to you - albeit slowly right now. I have joined an Adventuring Party recently, a bit begrudgingly but I was able to make some decent money by helping them on an important job. I've attached 5 platinum that I hope will help you with whatever way you need. We are currently heading to Castle Frey in Pennislovica to look for a lost Adventuring Party who we have been told are from Basta'Thrope'. I don't know much more than that, but I thought you should know. I love you, my son, and I will see you very soon. Love, your mother, Rina Michaelis."
Kin and Aurelius reached the main office of the Daybreak Coven. "We have a letter to be delivered to Rizvic" Kin said.
The woman at the counter looked young, but her eyes showed an ancient soul. She was dressed in the same robes that Rizvic wore, "I will ensure they get it. Now please be on your way" she said.
The four of them all met back at the Vorovni Adventuring Guild to look for another job in the general direction of Pennislovica. When they entered, all the Adventuring Party members from other parties cheered! "The Sprite's Lights! Who saved Riverbend!" one of them yelled.
"Let me get you a drink!" said another.
"My parents both disappeared from there," said one of the men, "I am grateful that you figured out how to stop it."
"Buy them all drinks!" one man yelled.
Alice was the first to accept a beer, then Aurelius. Kin declined to drink, and went straight to the back to see Marcus. Rina followed him, as she felt it was her and Aurelius' duty - still - to watch after Alice and Kin. She did grab a shot of whiskey on the way, though.
"Marcus" Kin said as he knocked on the office door.
"Come in" replied Marcus.
The two of them walked in, "Ahh, the Sprite's Lights" Marcus started, "What can I do for you now?"
"We were wondering if you have any other reasonably-paying jobs for us toward the southeast."
"We plan to head to Pennislovica" said Rina.
Marcus didn't even need to pause, "Well as a matter of fact, we have a job in the exact same place as your last one."
"Riverbend?" asked Rina, "what could have happened in an empty village?"
"Well" started Marcus, "it could get overrun by Goblins."
"There's Goblins there now?" asked Kin.
"And an Ogre," Marcus responded, "she seems to be their leader."
Rina and Kin paused and looked at eachother.
"It pays 3,500 gold" Marcus added.
"Deal" said Kin, "put our names on it!"
"You may need a little help," said Marcus, "so there's a handful of soldiers from Vorovni who will be waiting at the southern road tomorrow morning to go with you."
"Tomorrow?" said Rina, "That's short notice."
"They want to clear the town before too much damage is done to the homes" replied Marcus, "They've already dismantled most of the porches and emptied out the buildings of all tables and chairs."
"Well we will be at the southern gate at sunrise, then" said Kin.
Alice and Aurelius were singing and drinking with the other adventuring parties. Rina took another shot of whiskey before asking the bartender if there were any rooms in the adventuring guild for adventurers.
"Of course, what kind of guild would we be?" he answered, "We offer our rooms at half the price of the inn, it's for adventuring parties only, though - of course."
"Great" responded Rina, "We will take 4 rooms. You are closer to the southern gate here than we would be at the inn. We need to be there at sunrise."
He gave her keys to the 4 rooms, and she distributed them amongst the party members before turning in for the night.
Alice and Aurelius continued drinking and singing til late, Kin and Rina went straight to bed. Rina grabbing yet another shot of whiskey on her way.
That night, like every night, Rina wrote in her journal about the events of the day. She then placed it into the magical leather bag full of many other journals from her nearly 300 year long life.
